Smoke alarms wear out. Most manufacturers and the Australian Standard say to replace them every 10 years, and the date is printed on the back of each unit. If yours are yellowed, chirping or older than that, it is time for new ones.
240V alarms wired into your lighting circuit with a backup battery. They are required in new homes and major renovations, and are the most reliable option for any home that has the wiring for them.
Sealed battery alarms with a 10-year life and no battery changes. A good fit where there is no existing wiring and the rules for your property allow battery alarms.
When one alarm sounds, they all sound. Fire services in NSW and Victoria recommend interconnected photoelectric alarms, and we can link them with wiring or wireless modules.
We swap expired or faulty alarms like for like where the bases match, or fit new bases and adaptor plates where they do not, and test the full set when we are done.
Every home in NSW must have at least one working smoke alarm on each level. Landlords must check that alarms are working each year, replace removable batteries each year, and replace alarms before the end of their service life.
Victorian homes need a smoke alarm on every storey, and homes built after 1 August 1997 need hardwired alarms. Rental providers must have smoke alarms checked every 12 months.
Alarms belong in hallways between bedrooms and living areas, and on each level. We keep them clear of kitchens, bathrooms, air conditioners and ceiling fans, where steam and airflow cause false alarms or slow detection.
Every 10 years, or sooner if an alarm fails its test. Check the manufacture date on the back of each alarm.
A single chirp every minute or so usually means a flat backup battery or an alarm at the end of its life. If a new battery does not stop it, the alarm needs replacing.
Not where hardwired alarms are required, such as newer Victorian homes and renovated homes. We will tell you what your property needs before we quote.
Yes. We test, replace and record alarms for landlords and property managers, and can combine it with an electrical safety check.
We install smoke alarms to the Australian Standard and test every alarm on the circuit before we leave.
