Battery options
Adding a battery to existing solar
Most solar systems can take a battery. Depending on your inverter, we fit an AC-coupled battery with its own inverter, or replace the inverter with a hybrid unit that runs both panels and battery.
Solar and battery together
If you are starting from scratch, a hybrid inverter with a battery is usually the neater and cheaper way to do it, with one inverter and one monitoring app.
Blackout backup
Not every battery provides backup on its own. Backup needs the right battery and a changeover or backup gateway, and we can set it up to cover the whole home or just essential circuits such as the fridge, lights and internet.
Before you buy
Sizing
We look at your power bills and solar output to size the battery. Too small and it runs flat early in the evening. Too big and part of it never gets used.
Location
The battery standard sets rules for where batteries can go, including clearances from windows, doors and habitable rooms. Garages and outside walls out of direct sun are common spots.
Switchboard capacity
Older switchboards may need an upgrade to take the battery and backup circuits. We check this before quoting, so it is in the price rather than a surprise on the day.
Rebates
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program discounts eligible batteries installed from 1 July 2025. The system must be an approved product installed by an accredited installer. We will confirm eligibility with your quote.
Common questions
How big a battery do I need?
It depends on how much power you use after the sun goes down. Many homes use somewhere between 10 and 15 kWh overnight, but your bills tell the real story, and we size from those.
Will a battery work in a blackout?
Only if the system is set up for backup. Tell us at quote time if backup matters to you and we will include it.
Can I add a battery later?
Yes. If you are installing solar now and a battery later, a battery-ready hybrid inverter keeps the future job simpler.
Do you install the battery and do the electrical work?
Yes, we handle the electrical side from start to finish, including any switchboard changes and the compliance paperwork.
