Inspection types
Home safety inspection
A health check for the home you live in. Useful for older homes, after storm damage, before a renovation, or when something does not feel right.
Pre-purchase inspection
Know what you are buying. We look for old wiring, ceramic fuses, missing safety switches and DIY work, so repair costs are known before you settle.
Rental safety checks
In Victoria, rental providers must have an electrical safety check done by a licensed electrician at least every two years. In NSW there is no fixed schedule, but landlords must keep the property safe and maintain the smoke alarms. We do both and record the results.
What we check
Switchboard
Signs of overheating, loose connections, old ceramic fuses, and whether the board has room and capacity for what the home uses today.
Safety switches
We confirm which circuits are protected and test that each safety switch trips as it should.
Power points, switches and lights
Cracked, loose, scorched or damaged fittings, and power points running hotter than they should.
Wiring and earthing
Visible wiring condition, old rubber or fabric-insulated cable, and the main earth connection.
Smoke alarms
Age, placement and whether each alarm is working, against the rules for your state.
Common questions
How long does an inspection take?
For a typical house, about an hour. Larger homes and properties with more than one switchboard take longer.
Do I get a written report?
Yes. You get a report of what we found, with the urgent items separated from the ones that can wait.
Will you fix things on the day?
Small items can often be fixed on the spot once you have approved the price. Larger work is quoted separately.
